Private PPO-style & ACA options

Private & ACA Health Insurance

From comprehensive major-medical to flexible private PPO-style plans, I help you compare real options and choose coverage that fits your health needs and your budget.

What's included

  • Private PPO-style plans with broad provider access
  • ACA Marketplace major-medical (may qualify for subsidies)
  • Coverage for the self-employed, 1099, and business owners
  • Year-round options outside of open enrollment

Two paths to health coverage

Most people shopping on their own choose between two kinds of plan. ACA Marketplace plans are guaranteed-issue: you can't be turned down for health history, they cover the ten essential health benefits, and income-based subsidies can lower the premium. Private plans are sold outside the Marketplace. Some are medically underwritten, some are limited-benefit, and for healthy applicants they can cost less and offer broader PPO-style networks. Neither is automatically better. The right choice depends on your health, your income, your doctors, and how much risk you're comfortable carrying.

What I look at with you

Your doctors and hospitals, prescriptions, expected care for the year, your budget for premiums and for out-of-pocket costs, and whether you qualify for a subsidy. Then I lay the options side by side in plain English, including what each plan does not cover.

Good to know: Some private options are limited-benefit or excepted-benefit plans that are not ACA-qualified major medical. I'll always tell you exactly which is which.

Health insurance FAQ

Common questions

What's the difference between a PPO and an HMO?
A PPO lets you see any provider and pays more when you stay in network, usually with no referral needed for specialists. An HMO typically requires you to use its network and get referrals from a primary care doctor, in exchange for lower premiums. EPOs fall in between.
Can I buy health insurance outside open enrollment?
Yes. A qualifying life event (losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby) opens a Special Enrollment Period for ACA plans. Many private plans can be applied for any time of year, subject to underwriting.
Will I qualify for a subsidy?
Marketplace subsidies are based on household income and size, and the rules have changed several times in recent years. I check your eligibility against the current rules as part of your free review.
